2011 Yellowfin/OIFC Jolly Mon King Mackerel Tournament

The weather wasn't that great this weekend and the king mackerel were definitely not out in great numbers, but we still had a good time!!  Richard, Jordan and I went out on Thursday to just kind of play around, other than it being really bumpy out there, there wasn't a whole lot going on so Jordan wanted to try and catch some spadefish so we gathered up a few jelly balls and gave it a shot.  We caught three nice spadefish and I guess they got spooked after that and we could not get another bite.  Never the less those three made it back to the table.

On Friday, we headed out to see if we could connect Jordan with a king for the Jr. Jolly Mon event.  The first strike we had that morning was a 3.2 pound spanish mackerel and that was going to be it for the day.   To our surprise, the fish was good enough to take 2nd place in the Jr. Jolly Mon.  Saturday came and we made the decision to head on the east side and fish to try to get away from some of the weather.  The water looked really good, but there really wasn't much happening there either.  We tried everything to entice a bite, from live bait, cigar minnows, and even drifting with the kite, but nothing seemed to be hungry or the fish just weren't there.  Around 2:30 pm we decided to call it a day and start the long haul back to Ocean Isle and about the time Richard got the kite in, Glenn hollered and all I heard was a reel screaming.  I jumped off the bean bag (taking a little siesta) and seen the prop wash rod bent over.  I grabbed the rod and a few minutes later we finally had a king in the boat!  We gathered everything together and headed to the scales.  Not a lot of action this weekend, but it was great to get to see everyone again and to be able to get back on the water and spend time with family.

We finished the tournament 14th overall, 3rd in 23 TWT, and 3rd in Jr. Angler.

We want to thank some people who have brought us into their Pro Staff family this year.  RedfishOne Hooks, for their high quality and very sharp laser hooks that we use exclusively (www.redfishone.com); OIFC (www.oifc.com), for the OIFC Custom Star Rods.  These rods are sensitive for live bait, but with plenty of backbone.  Also, Old Harbor Outfitters (www.oldharboroutfitters.com), just brought us on as their newest Pro Staff members.  We have been using their gear for several years now, check them out and you will love their clothes, bags, knives, and etc.

Dusty Bowick Benefit Concert: A Huge Success!!

N.C. Highway Patrolman Dusty Bowick, (Doug's nephew), found out in December 2010 that he has stage 4 sinus cancer.  He is currently undergoing treatments at UNC Chapel Hill.  The weekend of March 12th, a benefit was held for Dusty and his wife to help with all of their medical expenses.  God Is So Good!!!  The turnout was awesome, there were over 1000 plates of spaghetti served and then afterwards a gospel concert took place.  Dusty and Sally were so overwhelmed by all the people that showed up to support them. Through this whole ordeal, Dusty has maintained a positive attitude and says "that if just one person will come to know the Lord, it will be worth it all."  I do know that people rededicated their lives to the Lord that night and that people that had other burdens decided to turn everything over to the Lord.  There have been so many miracles performed since all of this has started and people have come closer to the Lord.

For example, Dusty's little brother, Daniel (25), found out that he only has one kidney and the one kidney he has is failing.  Daniel feels fine and acts just fine (miracle).  He started all of his procedures to get placed on the list to receive a kidney.  Fifteen packets were sent out to people that Daniel knew and eight came back, four of which were Daniel's blood type.  The very first person that was called make to have more tests run, was a perfect match (miracle) and Daniel is scheduled to receive a new kidney the first or second week of April.  The doctors were amazed at how quickly they were able to find a match for Daniel.  God Answers Prayers!!!

I know that through all of this, more families will be reunited, people will come to know the Lord, people will become closer to the Lord, and both of these young men will be healed by the Holy power of God!!  God Answers Prayers!!!

Toes Up Fishing Team / Redfish One Hooks Pro Staff!

Toes Up Fishing Team is one of the newest Pro Staff teams for Redfish One Hooks.  We would like to thank Richie Lott, owner, for this opportunity to represent his company.  We look forward to the 2010 fishing season and look forward to seeing everyone at the tournaments.

Redfish One Fishing hooks are custom made and designed. Each style has been scrutinized by the owner himself, used in the field, then drawn again again until angles of the hook have been set properly for the quickest hook sets and maximum strength. Redfish One Fishing hooks are built in short runs to ensure the highest quality fishing hook. Each and every hook is inspected. Any damaged fishing hooks are disposed of and never sold, only recycled for other uses. We don't sell junk in a bag... Again, each and every hook is inspected before bagged and sent to a consumer or dealer. Plain and simple, our hands touch every single hook before they go in the bag. Our Fishing hooks are for Marlin, Tuna, Grouper, Snapper, Swordfish, Kingfish and more. King Mackerel Fishing Anglers in the SKA Kingfish Tournaments on the SKA Kingfish trail find our treble hooks especially attractive due to our Treble Hook strength. Our Kingfish 4-X strong treble hooks and bait hooks are used in Kingfish Tournaments up and down the coast.

Toes Up Fishing Team Captures 2009 Division 9 Championship!

The 2009 SKA National Championships was held in Biloxi, Mississippi this year.  Thursday night, November 19, was the awards banquet where all of the junior anglers, lady anglers, senior anglers, and divisional champions received their awards.  This is our third year fishing on the tournament scene and we are the Champions for Division 9.  Also, our children received First Place in the Junior Angler for Division 9 for the year.  In the picture above is Don Ewing of the SKA.  This was to be his last tournament, he is retiring.

Earlier in the week, we arrived in Biloxi and had the opportunity to do a little pre-fishing and go out and catch some bait.  On Wednesday, we went out to catch bait with the Final Approach Fishing Team.  We would like to thank them for the time and opportunity to spend with them on their boat.  We had a blast that day catching bait and even managed to land a nice king.  Also fishing with us this week was Chris Dawson from the Miss Janelle Fishing Team.  Chris is a super guy and he runs a charter service out of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and also charters for Ocean Isle Fishing Center.

We would also like to thank a few other teams for their friendship and support this year, Eren's Addiction Too and the Rock Doc.  Congrats to these teams for the nice fish they caught on Friday.  Also, another congrats goes out to the Ocean Isle Fishing Center for their awesome King Mackerel that weighed in at 74.10 lbs.  The new Mississippi state record and SKA record.

Toes Up Fishing Team is heading to Biloxi!

2009 OIFC Fall Brawl King Classic

With our last tournament completed (OIFC Fall Brawl King Classic), the Toes Up crew secured a 1st Place finish in the SKA's Divison 9: Class of 23'.  It looks like our children, Richard Boles and Jordan Robson, may capture the Junior Angler award for Divsion 9 as well.  This is our third year fishing with the SKA and 2009 proved to be a banner year for us.  We have to start by thanking our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, without him none of this would be possible.  Thanks also to all of our family and friends that help support us along the way.  The SKA is a great group of people that enjoy fishing, if you don't belong, start thinking about joining before next year.  For all of our friends in the SKA, we look forward to seeing you in Biloxi, MS for the Championships.

Toes Up Junior Anglers Take 2nd Place!

Little River, South Carolina Richie Boles and Jordan Robson capture 2nd place in the Junior Anglers Division at the Rumble in the Jungle on October 10, 2009.  The seas were rough that day, but they hung in there and were able to bring back a king to the scales.  Fishing was slow, we caught a few sharks and only had one king bite the entire day.  Congrats to our Junior Anglers!!

Carolina Beach, North Carolina — A beautiful 44.45 king mackerel caught by Richard Boles and Doug Robson on the Toes Up was the only king in the forties, giving them a big win at the East Coast Got-Em-On.

“We were fishing with Mark Ward and our children, Richard J. Boles and Jordan Robson , 60 miles south at the Myrtle Beach Rock,” said Boles.  “It was an early bite, 8:50 to be exact. We were fishing in 57 feet of water when she ate a live pogy on the surface. It was certainly the biggest king we’ve ever scaled.”

The team put the fish in the boat at 9:55 then had to wait till 2:30 to come to the scales. “We knew she was a good fish but it was a real thrill when the event was over and we were the winners,” added Boles. “We’ve been fishing SKA for three years and finally got a good win.”

Toes Up is now in the points race lead for the Class of 23. The two juniors, Richard and Jordan, were the event’s Top Junior Anglers.
